Taiwan’s Trade Surplus Soars: The country’s surplus jumped sharply in the first quarter of 1992 because of rising exports to China through Hong Kong. The surplus soared 55.8% to $2.57 billion from the same period of 1991, the Finance Ministry said. Exports increased 13.5% to $19.1 billion, while imports rose 8.9% to $16.53 billion. Taiwan had a record surplus of $3.6 billion with China, up from $2.51 billion the year before.
