West Hollywood : Suit Filed to Block Project

Share

A residents group battling plans by Raleigh Enterprises to build a major office and retail complex on Sunset Strip has filed a lawsuit challenging the West Hollywood City Council’s approval of the project.

The group, Residents Organized Against Raleigh, asserts that city reviews of the project did not adequately take into account the potential impact on nearby residents of added traffic, pollution and blocked views. ROAR attorney Corin L. Kahn also said Wednesday that city rules regulating tall buildings at the 8580 Sunset Blvd. site are inconsistent.

The City Council gave final approval to the project in March.

Assistant City Atty. Christi Hogin called the suit “offensive,” saying the city’s review of the project’s environmental impact and other effects had been exemplary. She said the project fits well with the city’s general land-use plan for the strip and meets all zoning laws.

The 125,000-square-foot complex--designed with columns and arches, open-air promenades and outdoor cafes--was promoted as an extension of Sunset Plaza’s boutiques and restaurants on the same block.
