ENCINO : Planners Prohibit Apartment Project
The Los Angeles Planning Commission on Thursday enacted permanent restrictions prohibiting the construction of apartments near the White Oak Avenue Post Office.
The board stipulated in its 5-0 vote that multifamily housing would not be permitted on the four-acre site, and that future development there must be approved by the Planning Commission and the City Council. The decision must be approved by the council.
The restrictions replace a temporary measure, enacted a year ago, which had blocked a proposed 112-unit apartment complex proposed for a portion of the four-acre site owned primarily by the U.S. Postal Service. The restrictions were enacted after Encino Park residents complained that the intense development was not suitable for their neighborhood of single-family residences.
The Postal Service had planned to lease the land for the apartment complex. A Postal Service spokesman could not be reached for comment on Thursday’s decision.
