Loss of Firm Hurts Area

Share

It was with great sadness that we read about Everest & Jennings moving its manufacturing operations to Missouri. This is indeed a loss to the community, for the company has quietly been a special friend to many nonprofit organizations, including Camarillo Hospice.

Our hospice loans out equipment to our terminally ill patients. For many years (and at no cost to us) Everest & Jennings has repaired used wheelchair equipment, which had been donated to the hospice by members of the community. Each year during the holidays, chairs were also donated to us.

This past December, two beautiful new chairs were donated. Within two days, a young woman, whose mother was one of our patients, called to say that her mother needed one of our wheelchairs. When she walked into our office and saw the shiny, new wheelchair for her mother, the young woman burst into tears. She was overcome with gratitude, for her mother would have something brand new to bring her a little happiness during her final days.

We wished that all the Everest & Jennings employees could have been there to share that moment and realize the significance of their gifts to our terminally ill clients.
