Colombia Gem Dealers Plan Emerald Bourse

BOGOTA, Colombia —
Local gem dealers are planning to set up a world emerald market in this Colombian capital, a newspaper reported Saturday.
The Bogota daily El Tiempo said that the idea was to set up a bourse in Bogota that would regulate world trade in emeralds, worth about $1 billion a year.
El Tiempo dubbed the idea “the Wall Street of precious stones.”
Colombia is the world’s biggest emerald producer, providing between 55% and 60% of world output.
