Nation IN BRIEF : INDIANA : Gulf Veterans Get Tests for Mysterious Illness

Doctors ran tests on about 100 Army reservists who have been sickened by a mysterious illness since their return from serving in five locations in Saudi Arabia during the Persian Gulf War. The doctors, from Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, compiled medical histories and conducted blood, urine and enzyme tests on soldiers from the 123rd Army Reserve Command, based in Indianapolis. The reservists have reported such symptoms as hair loss, muscle aches, chronic fatigue, thick saliva and aching teeth and gums. The command’s chief surgeon said no connection between their service and the ailments has been established.
