Samuel C. Burchell III, 68, author of historical books who formerly contributed to the Los Angeles Times on the subject of antiques. His books included “Building the Suez Canal,” “Imperial Masquerade,” and “A History of Furniture.” He served for 10 years as Los Angeles senior editor of Architectural Digest magazine, and until recently held a similar post at Audio-Video Interiors magazine. On April 7 in Santa Monica of cancer.
