World IN BRIEF : CUBA : Formal Ties With Belarus Established

Representatives of Cuba and Belarus signed an agreement in the Belarus capital, Minsk, establishing diplomatic relations at the embassy level. The move brings to 12 the number of former Soviet republics that have formalized ties with the Caribbean nation. Before the breakup of the Soviet Union, many of the tractors, motorcycles, refrigerators and television sets imported by Cuba were manufactured in Belarus.
