No More Cutlass Supreme?: General Motors Corp. is expected to announce more particulars in its ongoing reorganization today. Proposals being circulated at high-level meetings over the last several weeks range from terminating production of larger-sized Chevrolet cars, such as the Caprice, to eliminating the entire GM truck division, according to the Washington Post. Under this proposal, the truck division would be consolidated with Chevrolet, which has an identical product line. Also under discussion is the consolidation of all of GM’s mid-size cars into a single division in an effort to end the confusing duplication of models, which has often resulted in GM divisions competing against each other instead of against other American or Japanese car companies. This could mean the end of such well-known models as the Buick Regal, the Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme and the Pontiac Grand Prix.
