Share

The Long Beach Harbor Commission has selected two firms to study the future of the Queen Mary and Spruce Goose tourist attractions and recommend development schemes for more than 200 acres of surrounding waterfront property.

A Los Angeles firm, Economics Research Associates, will conduct a $126,000 economic analysis of the Queen Mary, owned by the city, and the Spruce Goose, Howard Hughes “Flying Boat,” which is owned by a nonprofit organization. The study will examine the cost of various options, including disposing of the ship, keeping the attractions open in their current state or renovating them.

Ehrenkrantz & Eckstut Architects of New York City will conduct a $395,000 study of development possibilities for the adjoining property. The Walt Disney Co. is not renewing its lease to run the Queen Mary and Spruce Goose.
