From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Almost 15,000 pounds of high-grade cocaine that had been shipped to Miami in a container packed with frozen broccoli has been seized in the culmination of what federal drug agents say is a two-year investigation of the Cali, Colombia, drug cartel. Ten people were arrested in the past week, and agents seized about $1 million worth of cash, jewelry and vehicles. Thomas Cash, the Drug Enforcement Administration’s top agent in Miami, said at a press conference that up to 80% of cocaine entering the United States through Miami comes from Cali. Among those arrested were Harold Ackerman, 43, a Colombian citizen and Miami resident, and Luis Fernando Murcillo, 40.
