From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Ventura County transportation officials told the Board of Supervisors that it would cost about $45 million to establish a commuter rail line between Ventura and Santa Clarita. The money would be used to buy right-of-way and rebuild existing rail lines between Ventura and Piru. Santa Clarita’s plans to build a convention center and the possibility of an international airport being built at Palmdale are strong incentives for the county to pursue commuter train service in the Santa Clarita Valley, officials said. Supervisors said they were impressed with the potential rail line because it would complement the commuter train service that is scheduled to link Moorpark and Simi Valley with downtown Los Angeles in October.
