I read with interest your article on the cutting back of conspicuous spending by the nouveau riche .

How thoughtful of them to stop flaunting it in front of us.

Now if only The Times would spend less space on glitzy Rodeo Drive ($10,000 Rolexes), restaurants like Spago and Le Dome (all you can eat for $200), celebrity incomes (Jack Nicholson made $50 million from “Batman”?) and free clothing ads in your Sunday magazine under the guise of features ($300 for a shirt?) and talk more about the real world that 95% of its readers live in, it could become a representative newspaper.
