Debate Over Abortion

Yes. Let’s make abortion a crime. Let’s force women to carry to term an unwanted pregnancy--even if she used birth control that failed. Let’s not hold men at all responsible for conception when we judge her. Let’s threaten her with loss of job and housing--even jail. Let’s create orphanages full of tens of thousands of children these women can’t care for. Where do you think we are? In Romania under brutal dictator Ceausescu? No, in the land of the free--in the United States! The consequences of giving the state this power over women can only be a complete disaster. It’s no wonder that the first “right” restored in Romania and Czechoslovakia was a woman’s right to choose.
