Surprise Snowstorm Hits Parts of North Carolina

ASHEVILLE, N. C. —
A freak May snowstorm dumped close to a foot of snow Wednesday in parts of the North Carolina mountains. The snow shut down the scenic Blue Ridge Parkway both north and south of Asheville, authorities said, including a section near 6,684-foot Mt. Mitchell.
