Baldwin Park : Council Apportions Grants
The City Council voted Wednesday to allocate $1.9 million in federal grants.
The funds will be used for programs to assist homeless people, battered women and latch-key children; for graffiti removal and code enforcement, sidewalk and street repairs, a fair housing program and the expansion of Morgan Park.
The council denied a request for funding from a Girl Scout group that hoped to start a troop in a low-income area where parents are not able to serve as volunteer leaders.
Council members agreed the scouting project was a good idea but said they felt the need for code enforcement in the city’s low- and moderate-income areas was more pressing.
