West Covina : Funding Allotted for Museum/Park
The city will hire a consultant to plan for traffic and safety issues in a proposed historical museum/park development.
The City Council last week appropriated $50,000 in park dedication fees to pay for landscaping, architectural and engineering services for the plan to move a two-story craftsman-style house from Padre Drive to the 11-acre park on East Cameron Avenue.
An additional $125,00 was approved for relocation costs, roof and wall repair, and installation of a security system and parking lot.
The 1,600 square-foot house, built in 1915, will become a museum of local history and the home of the West Covina Historical Society. Flowers, walnut and fruit trees will be planted in back, and walking trails and picnic tables will be added.
About a dozen residents who spoke at the City Council meeting Tuesday said they want the area fenced. But, to maintain the wilderness portion, they opposed additional lighting.
