IRVINE : Police Capture Branch Jail Escapee

The seventh escaped inmate from the James A. Musick Branch Jail this year and the second to flee in a week was captured hours after his getaway.

Within a few hours of escaping from the minimum security jail Tuesday night, employees at the Yellow Freight Warehouse at 56 Fairbanks noticed a man dressed in jail clothing loitering nearby.

The workers alerted Irvine police and officers arrested Francisco Dadislao Munguia, 22, shortly after 11 p.m. without a struggle.

Jail authorities say they are still investigating how Munguia, a Santa Ana resident, made his escape.

“He couldn’t have been gone for very long,” said Lt. Richard Olson, a spokesman for the Sheriff’s Department.

Munguia was arrested on stolen vehicle charges Friday by Orange police and was being held on $5,000 bail. He is currently in custody at the Orange County Jail.

The prisoner was the seventh inmate to escape from Musick Jail this year, compared to four for this time last year, Olson said. Four of this year’s seven escaped inmates, including Munguia, have been caught.

The most recent fugitive, Jose Garivay of Santa Ana, is still at large. He was spotted running from the jail by another prisoner Monday night.
