The teen-ager whose arms were reattached after being torn off in a farm accident is graduating from high school Sunday and wants to get on with his life without the world watching.

John Thompson, 18, says he is determined to have fun on graduation weekend.

“I can’t live my life in a shell because people are watching me,” he said this week. “I’ve been so scared to do anything in public.”

Thompson, whose arms were reattached in January, received money and wishes from people all over the world after his story was featured in the national media. He said he is considering majoring in vocal performance at the University of Mary in Bismarck.

“I definitely want to get into music,” he said. “It’s been my dream all my life. Now, it’s the only thing I can do right now because I can’t write and stuff.”
