Halicki’s Legacy Celebrates Childhood

Iread “The Ultimate Collection” (May 3) with a lump in my throat. I, along with scores of people, had the great fortune to work with Toby Halicki and to become a member of his vast family of friends. There will not be another one like him.

Toby lived his life doing exactly what he wanted to do. He didn’t have to prove anything to anyone because he knew he could fix an engine, rebuild a car, make a movie (without a studio), distribute a movie (on his own), throw the most unique parties (in his junkyard) and had the biggest toy chest in the world.

Toby Halicki did wonderful, thoughtful things for people because that was his nature. He worked hard and he played hard. Toby died with the most toys and the most friends.

Toby’s brothers and sisters were always involved in his various projects. . . . It is sad to think that Toby’s family may not get to receive much from the estate after the appeals (and) court costs. It would be nice if his collection could (go to) a museum for other people to enjoy his vibrant life and maybe, just maybe, touch the little child inside all of us. But that only happens in the movies.
