Countywide : Two GOP Leaders Host Clinton Talk

Share

Two county Republican leaders are hosting Democratic presidential candidate Bill Clinton at an outdoor public event today in Irvine.

The hosts are Kathryn G. Thompson, an Orange County developer and top contributor to President Bush in 1988, and Roger W. Johnson, Western Digital Corp. president.

Both Republicans stirred controversy last December when they invited Clinton to a breakfast event that included many Orange County Republicans. They said they hoped to send a message to the White House that they were unhappy with President Bush’s handling of the economy.

This time, Thompson and Johnson said they invited Clinton, Bush and undeclared candidate Ross Perot to speak at separate events. So far, only Clinton has accepted the invitation.

The speech is scheduled to begin shortly after noon outside the Western Digital headquarters at 8105 Irvine Center Drive, Irvine. It is outdoors and open to the public at no charge.

Western Digital spokesman Robert Blair said at least 1,000 people are expected to attend.
