Endorsement of Dornan Foe Called ‘Pathetic’

Share

Congressman Bob Dornan is my father and I am writing to let you know that I found your endorsement of his opponent pathetic. In your editorial, you gave two reasons for not endorsing my father:

First, you say that “Dornan stormed into a meeting” in Washington, D.C., and demanded his opponent not be endorsed. The truth is, Congressman Dornan never attended or entered this meeting!

Another reason for not endorsing Dornan is the fact that he is currently involved in a private lawsuit. You say that Dornan should let “bygones be bygones.” But what do you know about this case?

You really expect your readers to oppose Dornan because you label him a “bully” based on an interpretation of an event that, according to us, never happened as you say.

And you endorse a candidate because she is “refreshing” and “someone who can learn fast.” You don’t base endorsements on a candidate’s track record and stand on the issues?

I was at a press conference where The Times was present (unlike the meeting or on the airplane) and the entire room was moved by the words of Mayor Dan Young of Santa Ana, who spoke in great detail of all Congressman Dornan has done for the district in eight years of service.

You did not report one word.

Editor’s note: Dornan has told The Times that he went to the Capitol Club in Washington to confront a group of Republican women lawmakers at a reception about the possibility of their support for his GOP opponent. While he did not actually enter the meeting room, he acknowledges that he talked to some of the women in the lobby before they went in.
