Nurses, Aides Bring Love to AIDS Patients

Share

Re “A Special Haven for the Littlest AIDS Patients” (May 25): I’m not usually a sucker for a sob story, but the article by Carol J. Williams about St. Laurence Hospice in Romania brought a major-league lump to my throat.

As evil as the Ceausescu regime was, these volunteer British and Irish nurses and aides represent the absolute antithesis. These women are saints.

I know the torment of dealing with small children who have terminal illnesses. The smile on the face of the nurses’ aide in the picture you published comes from an inner glow that few possess.
