Pepsi Promotion Fizzles: A mix-up over winning numbers in a Pepsi promotion has left thousands of customers with a bad taste. The flap began last week when Pepsi announced 349 as the winner in its “Number Fever” promotion. Thousands of customers holding bottle caps with the number thought they would share in $38,000 in prize money. Then they learned that the caps had to contain a second, undisclosed “security code” number, not clearly visible. Pepsi said more than 500,000 caps were printed with the number 349. It did not say how many had the seven-digit security code. Thousands of angry customers have besieged Pepsi offices throughout the country demanding prize money.
