Aler, Evans Win Newport Charity Meet
NEWPORT BEACH —
Ian Aler and Keith Evans defeated Chris Dunk and Jon Leach in the men’s open division final of the annual Adoption Guild charity doubles tennis tournament Sunday at the Newport Beach Tennis Club.
Aler and Evans defeated Dunk and Leach, a former Laguna Beach High standout, 6-3, 6-2.
In the women’s open division, Stella Sampras, older sister of 1990 U.S. Open champion Pete Sampras and the 1988 NCAA women’s doubles champion, teamed with Barbara Gerken to defeat Susan Hawke and Nicole Storto, 6-2, 6-2.
In the open division of mixed doubles, Robert Van’t Hof and Linda Howell defeated Stella Sampras and Geoff Martinez, 6-3, 6-2.
