WORLD IN BRIEF : THAILAND : New Prime Minister Selection Is Delayed

Lawmakers wary of rekindling political unrest postponed naming the country’s new prime minister until the weekend at the earliest. The House Speaker said he will defer proposing a candidate until tensions subside and the constitution is revised. At least 48 were killed and hundreds injured in pro-democracy demonstrations in May. Up to 1,000 people are still listed as missing. The unrest forced military-backed Prime Minister Suchinda Kraprayoon to resign.
