Want-Ad Index Drops: Employment advertising in newspapers fell slightly in April from a month earlier, suggesting that the labor market remains sluggish, the Conference Board reported. The business research group’s help-wanted advertising index fell to 90 in April from 93 in March, although it remained above the 89 of February. The index, a barometer of ad volume in newspapers across the country, is calculated from a 1967 base of 100. The results are consistent with other data showing that the recovery is weaker than previous recession rebounds.
