Gun Proliferation and Violence

The standard complaint of the National Rifle Assn.--that if guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns--completely misses the point of the firearms crisis discussed in your series. The idea is not to put guns outside of the law, but to bring them within its reach. Law-abiding citizens have nothing to fear from legitimate gun control efforts. If guns can be controlled, only crooks will be out in the cold.
