Italy Considers Exiling Mafia Bosses to Islands

ROME —
Stung by the murder of leading Mafia fighting Giovanni Falcone, officials are considering exiling mob bosses to remote islands--reviving a tactic Fascists used against organized crime.
“It would be a preventive measure, which can be used quite aside from any investigations or trial to send bosses away from their fiefdoms,” a spokesman for the Interior Ministry said of the plan. He said the Cabinet will discuss the issue next week.
