Breast Cancer Research

Share

As I watched my sister fight breast cancer for the last four years I have become angrier and angrier. Now I have been told she has but a short time to live and I am furious. All we hear about is AIDS and how we must spend more money and lick this terrible disease. I am all for this; I, too, am scared that one of my teen-age children may someday contract it, but their chances of having breast cancer are much greater. My question and my fury are directed at the silence of our society about breast cancer.

One out of every nine women will come down with this dreaded disease. Where is the anger, where are the red ribbons, where are the celebrities? Until now I have never felt like a second-class citizen. Is it because it is a “women’s disease” that we hear so little? Well wake up. It could be your wife, your mother, your sister, your daughter or your friend next. We need more research, more financing and more publicity. Please, let’s not continue to lose so many fine women without a fight.
