Alliance of Iraq Opposition Plans to Shape Hussein Ouster Strategy
An alliance of Iraqi opposition groups announced Friday it will hold a congress in Vienna this month to plan a way to overthrow President Saddam Hussein.
An announcement by the London-based National Congress Committee said the June 16-19 gathering “will unite the main opponents to Saddam Hussein’s regime.”
It said the agenda includes the election of an “executive leadership, the formulation of a practical plan to oust Saddam’s regime and the endorsement of a constitutional, democratic, parliamentary government in Iraq.”
The statement, which was telefaxed to the Associated Press in Nicosia, did not say which opposition groups would take part.
