Pemex Will Be Restructured: Mexico’s state oil monopoly Petroleos Mexicanos will restructure its operations to create seven decentralized units, a Pemex spokesman said. The seven units will be responsible for production, refining, distribution of oil products, marketing of oil products, gas, marketing of gas products and petrochemical products, spokesman Carlos Zapico said. He said the restructuring plan was presented to the Pemex board Monday and will be presented to President Carlos Salinas de Gortari today. Although it is not clear what the exact nature of the central body would be, Zapico said the changes do not affect the Mexican constitution’s stipulation that oil and other natural resources must remain in the hands of the state.
