From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Two Regional Banks Nearly Merged: KeyCorp in Albany, N.Y., and U.S. Bancorp in Portland, Ore., held merger talks last year but called them off after failing to agree on terms. The trade newspaper American Banker said the talks would have created the nation’s 16th-largest bank with a presence on both coasts. It would have been especially strong in the Pacific Northwest, according to the publication, which added that the banks are not expected to resume discussions.
