LAKE VIEW TERRACE : Festival to Raise Anti-Gang Funds

Share

The Los Angeles Police Department plans to hold a family music festival at the city’s Hansen Dam Sports Center on July 12, with the proceeds used to help finance the department’s anti-gang program in the San Fernando Valley.

Councilman Ernani Bernardi, who represents the Hansen Dam area, introduced a motion Wednesday asking that city departments waive all fees that they would normally charge for use of the dam site. The motion is expected to be adopted next week.

Festival proceeds are to help underwrite the department’s Jeopardy program in the Valley. In this program, youths identified as being in danger of joining gangs participate in various after-school recreational and educational activities.

Bernardi recently won council support to spend $700,000 to provide a facility in Pacoima to house Jeopardy activities there. The money came from a special fund set up to provide amenities to northeast Valley residents affected by the city-owned Lopez Canyon Landfill.
