ALHAMBRA : Julio Fuentes of Pomona Named City Manager
Pomona City Administrator Julio Fuentes, who officials say helped the city overcome a severe budget deficit, initiated redevelopment projects and improved morale in a city racked with political turmoil, has been hired as Alhambra’s new city manager.
Fuentes, 35, said Friday his decision to leave was partially motivated by Alhambra’s “very stable environment.” He will be making $110,000 in Alhambra, about $13,000 a year more than he earned in Pomona. He succeeds Kevin J. Murphy, who left Alhambra in March to become city manager of Newport Beach.
Pomona Mayor Donna Smith called Fuentes “a good coach” for helping stabilize the city after a recall election and the dismissal or departure of nearly all the top city employees.
