Tenor’s Tantrum: Temperamental Italian tenor Nunzio Todisco lashed out at opera lovers when they booed him at the San Carlo Theater in Naples. Todisco had failed to appear in the third act of Francesco Cilea’s opera “Adriana Lecouvreur” on Sunday. The cue for his grand entrance was followed by silence until the rest of the cast carried on without him. The confused orchestra stopped and the curtain was lowered. Then Todisco appeared and began to insult the audience. “Who put you up to this?” he reportedly shouted from the spotlight. Reviewers concluded Monday that Todisco was reacting to the audience’s preference for his female co-star Raina Kabaivanska, who received a warmer ovation at the end of the second act.
