Share

Harold J. Meyerman, a high-ranking First Interstate Bancorp executive who ran the Los Angeles bank’s merchant banking operation, is leaving his full-time post.

Meyerman will continue to serve as an adviser to First Interstate Chairman Edward M. Carson, as well as an adviser to Great Britain’s Standard Chartered, which has bought a large chunk of the merchant bank’s business. First Interstate has been selling off parts of the merchant bank operation, officially known as First Interstate Bank Ltd.

Meyerman’s leaving was foreshadowed in March when First Interstate’s proxy statement disclosed that the bank had arranged a potential severance agreement with him.

A former Bankers’ Trust executive, Meyerman was named in 1986 to head the merchant bank operation, and he also served as a member of the bank’s influential managing committee.
