Share

John Weiss, a UC Irvine assistant professor of psychobiology and neurology, has been named a 1992 Pew Scholar in biomedical sciences.

Weiss is one of 20 junior faculty at research and medical schools across the country chosen by the Pew Charitable Trusts of Philadelphia for their promise in basic science or research that will advance human health.

Weiss, who received his bachelor’s, master’s, medical and doctoral degrees from Stanford University, studies the deterioration of nerve and brain cells in an effort to understand brain degeneration associated with Alzheimer’s disease and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or Lou Gehrig’s disease, according to university spokesman Randall Black.
