Writings Detail Killer’s Political Obsessions

An essay recovered from Larry Hansel’s toolbox three months before he went on a shooting spree at the Elgar Corp. details Hansel’s preoccupation with communism, one world government and other conspiracy theories.

The document, titled “From the Heart,” was read to the jury in Hansel’s sanity trial Wednesday. The jury is hearing evidence that will help it determine if Hansel was insane when he methodically stalked and used a shotgun to murder two Elgar executives on June 4, 1991.

The essay details a number of political concerns that made Hansel “anxious,” including “traitors in the Congress and news media,” bar codes as possibly leading to the collapse of the dollar and how a Jesse Jackson presidential administration could lead to a white supremacist government.

“I am having strong vibrations that America is heading down the road” to one world government, and President John F. Kennedy may have been assassinated because he was preparing to expose this fact, Hansel wrote.

Another concern expressed by the admitted killer is that magnetic strips, like those on the back of credit cards, could be implanted under a person’s skin so an individual could be scanned by authorities.

Defense attorney Alex Loebig Jr. is trying to convince the jury that Hansel killed two of the five Elgar executives on his hit list because he believed they were involved in a conspiracy involving the Antichrist and an imminent nuclear war.

Deputy Dist. Atty. Gregg McClain will present evidence next week that he hopes will convince the panel that Hansel, although mentally disturbed, understood the difference between right and wrong and should be sent to prison for the rest of his life.
