Limit on Building Sizes Up for Vote
A proposal to limit the size of buildings in Brentwood Village is expected to go before the Los Angeles City Planning Commission today for a vote.
The zoning change, presented last year by Councilman Marvin Braude, would restrict new buildings in the three-acre shopping district to 75% of lot size. Current zoning regulations allow a building to be 150% of lot size.
Although residents and merchants agree that they want the shopping village to retain its small-town charm, the Brentwood Village Chamber of Commerce opposes downzoning without exemptions for existing buildings.
Chamber officials argued during a public hearing April 20, and through petitions and letters, that the zoning change would put many existing buildings out of conformance with zoning regulations.
