Haag Death

Share

Like the Mike Haag family, I am stunned that the district attorney decided not to prosecute Derrick Lawton for the murder of Mike Haag. It’s a travesty of justice!

Lawton was urinating on Haag’s property, and, in addition to murder charges, should also be charged with trespassing, indecent exposure and assault and battery. Regardless of whether or not Haag threw the first punch, it is obvious that had Lawton not hit him, Haag would be alive today. The district attorney is doing this young man no favor by refusing to prosecute him.

Personally, I’m sick and tired of the criminal being protected. What about the poor victim, who only asked these three youths to leave? Does the victim of violent crime no longer have the protection of the district attorney? A jury of Lawton’s peers should determine whether or not he was guilty. My heart goes out to the Haag family, but I have no empathy for Derrick Lawton or his family, who long ago should have taught him personal responsibility and respect for the rights of others. I’d hit him too, if I found him urinating in my yard.

The district attorney should be ashamed of himself. Stand up, San Diego, and flood that office with letters demanding that justice be served.
