A husband and wife charged with kidnaping an Exxon executive were ordered held without bail on Monday after prosecutors said the couple planned to flee the country.

The executive’s whereabouts remained a mystery.

Arthur D. Seale and Irene J. Seale, both 45, of rural Lebanon Township, face charges of kidnaping, extortion and conspiracy in the disappearance of Sidney J. Reso, president of Exxon Co. International.

Seale, a former police officer, once worked for Exxon International as a security manager.

Reso, 57, has been missing since April 29 when he left his home in Morris Township for the 10-minute drive to company headquarters in Florham Park.

His empty car was found, its engine idling, at the end of his 200-foot driveway.

At a bail hearing Monday, prosecutors told U.S. Magistrate G. Donald Haneke that Seale obtained a passport June 3 and planned to leave the country.
