Afternoon Paper in Spokane to Fold: Citing years of steadily declining readership, owners of the Spokane Chronicle announced that the afternoon newspaper will cease publication next month. The Chronicle will become part of an expanded morning Spokesman-Review, said the family-operated Cowles Publishing Co., which owns both papers. Publisher W. Stacey Cowles said no full-time employees will be laid off.
