Horror Over Gun Deaths

The Times staffer who writes the (repeat) anti-gun editorial, which hasn’t changed much over the years, must be a naive utopian to think that the reported 60 million U.S. citizens who own the reported 200 million guns can be disarmed by his tireless urging. The Times can make an ally of the “powerful gun lobby” with no delay or difficulty by endorsing a policy of disarming violent criminals by arresting, convicting and imprisoning them. Responsible citizens who own firearms and are, as the National Rifle Assn. spokesman said for them, people who have never committed a crime and never will.
