India Making Big Wheat Purchase From Canada: India has contracted to import 1 million tons of wheat from Canada and the first shipment is expected to arrive by mid-July, the Press Trust of India reported. The news agency said the average price worked out to $145 a ton, substantially lower than the market rate. Food Minister Tarun Gogoi said in May that India might have to import 2 million tons of wheat because farmers were not sending their grain to market and the government might not meet its target of a 9-million-ton buffer stock.
