World IN BRIEF : GEORGIA : Government Forces Kill 20, Injure 86
Georgian forces ignored a cease-fire and bombarded separatist South Ossetian towns and villages with artillery fire that killed 20 people and wounded 86, the Interfax news agency said. Heavy fighting elsewhere in the former Soviet Union also was reported in the separatist Dniester region of Moldova and in the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region of Azerbaijan. But in Tajikistan, officials denied a television report that 150 people had died in a clash between Muslim groups. The officials said no more than 10 people were killed.
