Police deactivated two homemade bombs here Monday, less than a month before the opening of the Olympic Games.

The bombs were among four deactivated overnight and in the early morning by police in northeastern Spain, according to Jose Antonio Rosell, a government spokesman.

The other two were found in Gerona, 50 miles northeast of Barcelona. Three of the bombs were in front of banks, Rosell said.

Police arrested seven suspected members of Terra Lliure, a group advocating independence for Spain’s Catalan region--which contains Barcelona.

Terra Lliure, which means free land in Catalan, announced it was giving up violence last summer, but officials have since accused members of the group of setting bombs--usually modified camping gas canisters.
