Supreme Court on Abortion

Share

In response to “High Court Affirms Right to Abortion but Allows Some Restrictions by States,” June 30:

The Supreme Court upheld all of the Pennsylvania anti-abortion law restrictions, except notification of the woman’s husband.

As a pro-choice Republican, I believe in individual freedom and responsibility. The government must cease interference with the most personal, private decision a woman can make. Instead the government should focus its efforts to prevent unwanted pregnancies. No politician, no priest, no judge has a constitutional right to insist that any pregnant woman must bear an unwanted child.

Currently, the women of the U.S. do not live in a nation with constitutional checks and balances. To re-establish balance, it is up to the Congress to pass the Freedom of Choice Act, without weakening amendments, and with a veto-proof vote. Without the freedom to make reproductive choices, women--53% of the population--have no freedom at all.

I hope that the politicians, priests and judges are listening . . . especially the politicians. There is an election on Nov. 3.
