CAMARILLO : $250,000 Given to Shelter for Children
The Los Angeles-based Weingart Foundation has donated $250,000 to Casa Pacifica, a shelter under construction in Camarillo for abused and neglected children.
With this latest donation, only $750,000 is needed to meet the fund-raising goal of $4 million, said Lauraine Effress, executive director of Casa Pacifica.
The Weingart Foundation grants money to nonprofit and charitable groups and institutions.
Ground was broken March 21 for the first phase of the Casa Pacifica complex, a facility that will house 60 infants and children up to age 18. It is designed to provide medical, educational and mental-health care.
The shelter is estimated to cost $8 million to construct, and $4 million already has come from Ventura County government.
Completion is expected by summer 1993.
