Nureyev the Conductor: Legendary dancer Rudolf Nureyev makes his West Coast conducting debut July 17, leading the UC San Francisco Orchestra at the Masonic Auditorium in Beethoven’s Symphony No. 3 and portions of Prokofiev’s “Romeo and Juliet.” Nureyev, who has been conducting in Europe for more than a year, made his U.S. debut with the American Ballet Theatre in May. The concert proceeds will benefit the orchestra, and research in the UCSF Department of Urology. Also on the program is “Imp of the Perverse” by UCSF biochemist Chris Bystroff, which will be conducted by Jonathan Davis.
